Robe : It isn't famous for Robes

ROBE: IT REALLY ISN'T FAMOUS FOR ROBES.
For those of you who think I have gone mad saying that, it is from the Bega cheese add on TV many years ago.

Robe was our one nighter, arriving late and leaving early. Jamie for some reason, unknown to me wanted to get through South Australia as soon as possible.
Out of season this town would be a great getaway for couples as it is really quite, not a lot to do except eat in the many restaurants. It probably would have been better for the kids in season where they could enjoy the beautiful beach but we made the most of it. The caravan park only had three other vans in it and we could choose our own spot. Funnyly we all parked in a different section of the park.
They had a great indoor heated pool so we made the most of it, swimming for an hour and a half.
Then to check out the sites,
Long Beach which was 10km long, water was freezing no chance of swimming in there. Alizah found heaps of jellyfish and Zara found heaps of shells.
The Old Goal which operated 1860- 1881, wasn't much of it left apart from an earth closet and a floor layout of stones. Levi tried a few moves in the exercise yard.
The Obelisk which was built in 1855. It is  12m high, 30m above sea level and can be seen 20km out at sea and it was a pretty red and white stripe.
Just outside of Robe was Woakwine Cutting, it is a massive drain  made to drain Mr M.B McCourts property which was 420 hectares of peat swamp. It took himself and his employee 3 years to make and it has now made the land into rich fertile soil.  It is 1km in length, 28-34 metres at its deepest point and entailed the removal of 276000 cubic metres of material. Hard job if you ask me.
By far the most entertaining moment I had in Robe was when we stopped for morning tea next to the ocean. Levi got out of the car to go to the toilet, there were about fifty seagulls looking at him so Jamie thought it would be funny to throw out a crumb of bread as Levi walked past them.  Within a second all of those birds where almost on top of him and he was nearly on the ground wetting his pants. Oh how we like to have fun at the children's expense. It really was funny to see, wish I would have videoed it.

This was Robe.
